ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITIES

 

We serve our local community by raising funds to promote community betterment through a various activities as well organising activities for the community. Some of these are:

q        Warners Bay Markets ? John Street Car Park (in front of Warners Bay Plaza) ? 2nd Sunday of each Month 8:00 m ? 1:00 pm:

·                Well known and patronised community markets with over 200 stallholders;

·                Operating continuously since 1992 ? many of the original stallholders are still present;

·                An event organised as a community service which also raises, through stallholder fees, significant funds which are given as donations by our Lions Club to local and regional community members and organisations;

q        City of Newcastle Classical Dance Eisteddfod

·                held over 10 days in Autumn School Vacation, each year, with 1,200 dancers competing for scholarships, championships and awards.

q        Music in the Podium ? Food Van - Warners Bay foreshore ? Friday evenings

·                6 ? 8:30 Pm for duration of daylight saving October to March.

q        Carols by Candelight  ? Speers Point Park ? Selling candles and glow lights to sing by

·                afternoon and evening, last Sunday before Christmas Day.

q        Lions International Peace Poster Competition

·                students competing from surrounding Primary Schools.

q        Lions Youth of the Year Competition

·                students from local high schools displaying their abilities in research, presentation and public speaking in annual events with possible progression to district, national and international recognition.

q        Variety of community activities such as:

·                performing house and grounds maintenance for the those in need of special assistance;

·                assisting/participating in community activities such as fundraisers for special and focus community service providers (John Hunter Children?s Hospital, medical research organisations).

q        Sponsoring surrounding schools

·                annual presentations days (student awards), funds raisers, grants for special purposes (e.g. computer equipment).

q        Lions Mints

·                selling through participating local businesses.

q        Special Nights and Activities promoting fellowship amongst the family of Lions and friends:

·                Robbie Burns Night (YES with haggis and whiskey);

·                theatre nights;

·                special occasion nights.
